A Gala Concert In Aid Of Haiti

Vladimir & Anton are set to join a stellar lineup of Irish stars at the unique fundraising Gala Concert to support the people of Haiti.

Hosted by MCs Miriam O’Callaghan and Brendan O’Connor and presented by John McColgan, director of Riverdance, all proceeds raised will go directly to Haven’s recovery work on the ground in Haiti.

The concert will take place at Dublin's Covention Centre on Saturday 11th March 2017.

More than 1.4 million people were left in urgent need of humanitarian aid in the wake of Hurricane Matthew, the third major natural disaster to strike Haiti in only six years.

Haven is an Irish NGO, strongly committed to empowering the people of Haiti to rebuild sustainable livelihoods and to live free from poverty.  Launched in 2008, it focuses on three core development areas: water and sanitation, training and education, and shelter.

This unforgettable Gala Concert will play an incredible part in the journey to recovery, and you can be part of this story.

Tickets for this once-off event, starting from €25, are on sale now.

Instrument Gender Bias? A word from V&A

I read this piece yesterday about the gender breakdown between men and women and the different instruments they play.  One line immediately jumped out at me - "A study conducted by the Royal Albert Hall has revealed that brass instruments are associated with men, and string instruments with women."

Unfortunately I'm not sure we see more female violinists than male violinists in the core classical industry. Maybe at the top of the charts there are a few more female soloists, but in orchestras we still witness it as a male-dominated industry, even though the violin is perceived as one of the more feminine instruments of the orchestra.

VLADIMIR & ANTON ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM AND FULL IRISH TOUR

Vladimir & Anton will release their new album - Vladimir & Anton Live -  in Ireland on Friday 16th September. The album was recorded over three sold-out nights at the Wexford Arts Centre earlier this year.

The brothers have been busy touring the UK as special guests of superstar diva soprano Katherine Jenkins, and have also played a special concert at the Slovakian Embassy in London as part of the Euros 2016, as well as guesting at the prestigious Isle Of Wight festival.

The album draws heavily on popular Russian classical music, as Vladimir and Anton have been inspired by the adventures of their paternal Grandfather Nikolaj who was born in Moscow in 1925.

The repertoire draws on material that Nikolaj would have played, old Russian folk tunes and romances like “I Met You”, “Dark Eyes” and “Dark Is The Night” mixed with pieces that resonate with Vladimir and Anton. “Theme from Cheburashka” celebrates an iconic Russian classic cartoon character - part monkey, part bear-cub - who the boys grew up watching on TV, while “Those Were The Days” is revisited as the piece Anton used to proffer when asked by friends “can you please play something we know?”

The album also includes well-known pieces by Prokofiev, Rimsky-Korsakov and Shostakovich for a thrilling Trans-Siberian musical adventure from St. Petersburg to Vladivostok.

TO CELEBRATE THE ALBUM RELEASE, VLADIMIR & ANTON WILL BE SETTING OUT ON THEIR BIGGEST IRISH TOUR TO DATE.   TICKETS FOR ALL SHOWS HERE.
